Weekend Escape – Hawks Nest, NSW

Hawks Nest is a seaside town located 2.5 hours north of Sydney.  With Jimmys Beach and Bennetts Beach located in close proximity to the caravan park, it makes for a fun and relaxing weekend getaway with the kids.  We stayed at North Coast Holiday Park which has recently undergone a refurbishment.  The park is large with over 140 caravan and camping sites and a few onsite cabins and beach tents also available. The park has a great playground just outside the entrance and a huge climbing frame inside the grounds that kept the kids amused!

Jimmys Beach is a two minute walk from the van park and is a family friendly beach as it is a little more protected than Bennetts Beach which tends to be more for the surfers.

Myall Lakes National Park is just north of Hawks Nest and has a mix of beaches, lakes and bushland to explore.  Kayaking, fishing and camping are popular activities in the area.

Mt Yacaaba is the largest headland in the Port Stephens area and Yacaaba Headland Walking Track will get you straight to top to take in the stunning views.  We had planned to walk this track but we woke to an unpleasant day so we will be back to do this one day soon!  ***EDIT:  we have been back and walked to the top of Mt Yacaaba!  Check out our post here.

If you are keen on a spot of Geocaching, you will find some hidden treasures around area too!
