ZENITH BEACH – WRECK BEACH – BOX BEACH
Tomaree National Park is located in the Port Stephens region and has some beautiful bush and coastal walking trails to explore.
This section of Tomaree Coastal Walk is around 6kms return. We started our walk from the Zenith Beach car park in Shoal Bay and made our way to Wreck Beach and then onto Box Beach.
The track is graded medium and is generally a well formed gravel track but does have some uphill sections.
The car park is located at the entrance to Zenith Beach so make this your first stop. A short stroll will take you to a landing where you can see the beach and admire the views of Mount Tomaree.
Tomaree Head Summit Walk is another hike that has stunning views after a fairly steep climb to the top! Definitely one to put on your bucket list!
The track to Wreck Beach starts from the top of the car park.
Once on the track you weave your way through a dirt trail for 1.5kms and then veer left towards Wreck Beach (signposted). There are some hills but nothing too tough! From the main trail it is a 300 metre walk to this secluded beach. You cannot drive to Wreck Beach, the only access is via foot.
Once back on the main trail from Wreck Beach, the walk continues for a further 1km. The trail leads onto Box Beach Road where you turn left and walk another 400m to reach the beach access. Box Beach is a popular spot for surfers and is easily accessible by road.
GETTING BACK TO ZENITH BEACH CAR PARK
You can make your way back to Zenith Beach car park via the same track, or as we did, you can take the road back through Shoal Bay via Horace Street and onto Shoal Bay Road.
From Box Beach you can continue a further 3kms to Fingal Bay. We didn’t do that on this hike but will be back another time to tick that off!
