ABERCROMBIE CAVES is located within Abercrombie Karst Conservation Reserve and is an impressive limestone cave system. The entrance archway is the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. In the 1850s the Archway became a meeting place for gold miners due to the shelter it provided. In the late 1930's Glen Davis was in the centre of the Shale Oil Industry, now it is somewhat of a ghost town. The Capertee Valley is definitely worth a visit with its stunning scenery provided by towering sandstone cliffs in every direction you look. The small township of Bylong has a great low cost campground available to travellers. We just stopped in for a quick travel break on our way to Glen Davis, however, we wouldn't hesitate to stay here on a future trip. WHERE IS IT? The Junction is a beautiful quiet free camp on the Abercrombie River. There are spots right on the river to camp or a larger area on the way in that has plenty of space.
