CATARACT GORGE, Launceston TAS

CATARACT GORGE is a short 5 minute drive from central Launceston.  A popular place for a walk, run, swim or to simply relax in the beautiful bushland setting!

WHERE IS IT?

📍 Basin Road, West Launceston, TAS

COST?

The Gorge is FREE to enter!!  However, if you wish to have a ride on the chairlift, this does come at a cost.

WHAT CAN YOU DO THERE?

There are many different walking trails to enjoy.  A couple of shorter, easier 1km walks to more difficult longer tracks.

You can take a ride on the world’s largest single span chairlift.  It will take you across the South Esk River where you can start on the walking trails.  We wandered over the suspension bridge and did a few of the walks and then caught the chairlift back to the main area.

Swimming in the Gorge itself is allowed and they also have a pool for public access too.

BBQ areas, playgrounds and picnic tables are aplenty as well as two cafes on site so the perfect place to spend the day!

It’s a very popular spot and worth a stop – we enjoyed it!
