Mount Gambier sits in the south eastern corner of South Australia, just 17kms from the Victorian border. Being midway between Melbourne and Adelaide, it makes a popular destination for a travel break.

Mount Gambier is a large city with a population of around 28,000 and is well known for its stunning geographical features and those you will read about here are all free to visit!

ATTRACTIONS TO VISIT

UMPHERSTON SINKHOLE

LOCATION: Jubilee Highway East, Mount Gambier

Once a limestone cave, the sinkhole was formed when the roof of the cave collapsed.

The sinkhole was made into a garden back in 1886 and is a free attraction open from dawn to dusk.

A beautiful place to visit and wander through!

BLUE LAKE  & VALLEY LAKE

LOCATION: John Watson Drive, Mt Gambier  

The incredible crater lakes are simply stunning!

The summer months are the best time to visit to see the amazing blue colour! Apparently outside these months the lake turns a grey colour.

LITTLE BLUE LAKE

LOCATION: Mount Salt Road, Mount Schank

The local hidden swimming hole out of town, a bit like Blue Lake’s younger brother…

MOUNT SCHANK VOLCANO CRATER

LOCATION: Mountain Path Road, Mount Schank

A 900 metre return walk with 1038 stairs to this amazing view!!
